We get a lot of calls about removing etches from Marble, this is the time people start really noticing there floors and saying to themselves wow, my floors really look awful and they question they also notice that there floor doesn’t have a high shine any longer. There is only one way to remove etches from marble and that is by honing the floor. First lets talk about what causes marble to etch. Marble can etch from a number of factor such as abrasive chemicals but the most common reason marble etches is because lemon, lime, or coke / pepsi went on the marble and the acidic acid eat the shine away. There’s is a good test to establish if that is your problem. Wet the etched area and you will see the high shine again, after the wet test area goes away you will notice the etch mark will come back. So your question might be how to how to remove etches from marble tile or even counter tops. What need to happen is a company like colonial floor and stone care will need to come in and use resin diamonds on the marble. Let’s say for example on your floor you came home and you noticed a big etch mark on your marble floor in the kitchen. And someone say I spilled coke cola on the floor and didn’t whip it up fast enough. What we would do it draw a circle around the spill to indicate this is the are that we will do our first resin cut with our floor machine.

Colonial floor and stone care would put the 200 resin diamonds on the floor machine and hone that area the is etched within the circled area. Then we would put on the 400 resin diamonds and hone the floor but this time feather out over the circled are about and inch. The trick to doing any type of marble restoration is to scratch the floor with a resin diamond then work the way up with resin diamond always going out an extra inch over the previous cut. If a technician doesn’t do this properly the floor will show scratch marks and the floor when powered polish will show the scratches and let me tell you if that is the case that means that the floor will need to be redone to establish which resin grit that scratch came from then have to work that scratch out then proceed up the resin diamond grits then re polish the floor. Now let’s get back to this example, after the four hundred resin cut is completed it is time to change resin diamonds and put on the 800 resin diamonds, remember we always overlap the previous cut. Then it is time to polish the floor and enjoy the high shine floor again. This is the time to re apply sealer on the floor to repeal any future stain from absorbing in the the stone.
