Marble grinding also know as honing, is considered to be full restoration. Marble grinding isn’t an easy task, a great deal of skill and training is required. Beside doing all the prep work first like taping up the wall and etc the technician will need to evaluate the floor and identify where the deepest scratch is and which diamonds they are going to use to create scratch pattern so the scratch of issue goes away. At colonial stone and floor care our technicians are all trained to understand the importance of good scratch patterns. One the marble is all scratched up for full marble restoration. It is important to change the diamond and work up to the next highest grit. So for example, the floor is in bad shape. The technician thinks he can work the scratches out with 100 resin diamonds. What he would do is use his 100 diamonds and grind away. Afterwards he would need to carefully evaluate the floor to make sure he removed that scratch if he did he would put the 200 resin diamonds one, always double up on the next highest grit.
The problem is that a highly trained technician know that when he moves up to the next highest grit and grinds away that if the deepest scratch is not following this new scratch pattern, he will need to drop down with the use of diamonds. If the 200 resin did not remove the scratch it make know sense to proceed to 400 resin because the scratch will not come out and the high shine on a marble floor is all based about scratch patterns and the light reflecting off the marble. If marble grinding isn’t properly done when the floor is said to be done, especially if your having the floor high shine the scratch will pop out. Over the years we have seen many botched marble grinding jobs that the customer has used there carpet cleaner to do the polishing. Marble grinding is a skill that most people who are serious about making a living on this trade go to a couple of training programs to learn how to do this skill so the floors are done properly.
The bottom line is hire a professional to work on your marble floor, not your lawn guy or carpet cleaner who does it as a side business. If there is a problem with restoring your floor you need to have a company that will stand behind there work and one that can problem solve problems that do happen in this industry like why isn’t this marble taken the shine, what am I not doing right. Call colonial and we will be happy to give you a free no obligation estimate and advice on how to maintain your floors.
