Your floors are an intricate part of your home. It is most often the first impression, so of course you want it to be a good one. Marble, when it's well maintained can be exactly that, a good impression. To understand and appreciate the beauty of marble, it's best to start by understanding its history.
Marble is a metamorphic rock made out of limestone. Environmental agents that put pressure on limestone for a long period of time can cause the limestone to turn into marble. Marble is considered to be more beautiful and durable than limestone. It is a popular choice for buildings, hotels and residential homes. Marble is rarer and more costly than limestone. Marble was mostly white but also came in a great variety of colors. In ancient Greece and Rome, white marble was used to make statues while colored marble was more ornate and was used to make patterns in floors. Different colors of marble came from different parts of the Roman Empire. For instance purple came from Egypt most often associated with power. Marble was also used on walls over bricks to make the walls look fancier such as in churches and palaces.
Even in modern times, marble is still considered a good choice due to its elegance and durability. It is also alluring to homeowners because of the value that it adds to your homes worth. Like all natural stone surfaces, marble has very specific maintenance regimens. After time, even with proper maintenance, your marble will need professional restoration.
At Colonial Floor and Stone Care, we provide a technique in bringing your lustrous back to life. Here is our step by step method:
- If there is lippage, where one tile is higher than the other, use 35 grit raised diamond pads to remove the lippage, vacuum floors thoroughly so there is no slurry and to ensure flat smooth surface before floor is polished.
- Using 50 and100 metal diamonds, hone floors
- Then we Hone floors using 100, 200, 400, 800 resin diamonds going in side by side motion with swing machine to avoid any track lines. With each step there will be less and less water used because the scratches become finer.
- Polish with non acidic 5x powder using burnishing pad. This result will give beautiful shine with no further issues of dullness and etching
- Apply impregnating sealer that is low odor, solvent based. This will not alter the shine or the color of the marble.
You should not overlook the fact that professional care of your precious floor is crucial to the durability of your marble floors and must be done properly. When the proper steps have been used, your marble will once again be a definitive fixture in your home giving your value and added beauty for many years to come. All this needed after easy maintenance in marble cleaning.
